Acura's Maintenance Minder is smarter than a fixed-mileage schedule. The system tracks real driving conditions — oil temperature, engine load, trip length, cold starts — and calculates when each service is actually due. When oil life drops to 15%, the dash shows one or more service codes. These codes combine: A is oil change, B is oil plus inspection, and numbers 1 through 6 add specific services on top.
Letters: A means oil and filter change only. B means oil change plus a 12-point inspection covering brakes, steering, suspension, drive shaft boots, fluids, and exhaust. Your vehicle shows A or B — never both at once.
Numbers combine with letters to specify additional services. 1 is tire rotation. 2 is engine air filter plus drive belt inspection. 3 is transmission fluid. 4 is spark plugs plus timing belt inspection (critical at 105,000 miles). 5 is engine coolant replacement. 6 is rear differential fluid. So B12 means oil change, inspection, tire rotation, air filter replacement. B1236 means all of that plus transmission fluid and differential fluid.
Typical intervals: A codes every 5,000-7,500 miles. B codes every 10,000-15,000 miles. Sub-code 2 every 30,000 miles. Sub-code 3 every 30,000-45,000 miles. Sub-code 4 every 105,000 miles — this is the big one, and it includes timing belt replacement on Acura V6 engines through 2017. Sub-codes 5 and 6 appear every 30,000-100,000 miles depending on conditions.
Deferring sub-codes 3, 4, and 5 causes the most expensive damage. Skipping code 4 past 105,000 miles risks catastrophic engine failure on interference-design V6s. Skipping code 3 destroys transmissions. Skipping code 5 corrodes cooling systems. Sub-codes 1, 2, and 6 are more forgiving but still shouldn't be ignored.
We perform every Acura Maintenance Minder service at 40-60% less than the Acura dealer. OEM-spec parts. Factory procedures. Proper Maintenance Minder reset every time. Your warranty stays intact under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Call (707) 584-7727 with your current service code — we'll tell you exactly what's due.
Common Acura Maintenance Schedule Problems We Fix
Confusion about what each code actually covers
Acura's Maintenance Minder uses letters and numbers that compound. We maintain a reference chart for every code combination — A1, A2, B12, B123, B1236 — so you know exactly what you're paying for and what's included.
Dealer bundling services that aren't part of your code
Dealers sometimes add cabin filters, wiper blades, and battery tests to B1 appointments. B1 doesn't require those. We perform only what the code specifies unless we find an issue during inspection — then we show you the problem before adding the service.
Deferring code 4 service past 105,000 miles
Code 4 includes timing belt replacement. Every Acura V6 through 2017 is an interference engine — if the belt breaks, pistons strike valves and the engine is destroyed. This is the single most expensive code to skip. We won't let you defer it without understanding the risk.
Skipping code 3 transmission fluid service
Acura transmissions — especially the 5-speed automatic in 2003-2013 MDX and 2004-2008 TL — depend on clean ATF-Z1 or DW-1 fluid. Code 3 service at 30-45K intervals extends transmission life significantly. Skipping it is the #1 cause of premature transmission failure we see.
Incomplete Maintenance Minder reset after service
If your Minder still shows the service code after an appointment, the reset wasn't done correctly. We perform the full reset procedure every time. Main codes and sub-codes both get cleared so the next interval appears on schedule.
